Italy Softball update

June 6, 2008

June 6 – The team has arrived safely and has checked in to their hotel. We will try and update this site throughout the week with scores.

June 8 - After two days of some intense sight seeing around Rome, the group boarded the bus for a 4 hour drive to Riccione Beach on the Adriatic coast. They spent the afternoon shopping or relaxing on the beach for most of the afternoon. Tonight the group will be staying in San Marino.

June 9 - Guided tour is scheduled for 9am and then the group will have the afternoon to explore San Marino on their own. Game’s 1 and 2 are tonight in a nearby town.

June 10 - The softball team has played 3 games and is still looking to score it’s first run. They have lost, 5-0, 8-0, 7-0. After playing a strong San Marino team twice, they were matched up against the European Chapmitons from Forli. The team from Forli included several division I softball players with Italian citizenship. They also had a few players who play for the Italian National team.

June 11 - AIST finds victory in Italy. Beating a club team in Verona in two games 6-3 and 7-0.

June 12 - Tody we departed mid-morning from Verona for Como arriving in the mid-afternoon. They group had some free time to explore the city before transfer to Legnano for a mini tournament. 3 innings into the first game the rains came. After an hour delay they had to call the games as rain continued. A short ceremony was held for the mini tournament and AIST was trailing 4-1 after three innings. It was voted that the home team Legnano would get the 1st place trouphy while AIST settle for 2nd. Each player received a medal.

Tomorrow we will go to Milan for a guided tour and the rest of the day will be free to explore Como.
