Fundraising

We know the financial hurdle can be a big factor in your decision to travel with AIST. We have provided some information below to help you make the opportunity possible.

We have a fundraiser letter that you can use for free. We recommend using this letter along with a personal note and a stamped envelope to raise funds quickly and with many of your peers and family members. You can download the letter here!

Old School – Hand Delivered Letters (or emailed):

  • One of the easiest ways we have found for a player to raise money is with our fundraiser letter that you can download here. It’s best to make a list of as many friends, family, and businesses in your community and anyone else you can think of that would be willing to support you. Remember, with this list you are only trying to get small donations of $20-$50 per person. The bigger your list the better your response will be. We recommend putting a cover letter with it and including a stamped envelope with the AIST address on it. This way you will make it convenient for them to make a donation. On-line donation options are available as well.  In your cover letter be sure to ask them to respond within two weeks so you can have a better idea of the response these letters will have for you. This process can be done in just a few hours and be very helpful financing your trip. We will send you a statement every time a donation is received so you can see who has supported you. It will also have their mailing addresses (if available) so you can send thank you letters if you would like.

Camps:

  • Host a sports camp for younger kids. We suggest asking the Athletic Director or Coach at your school if you can rent the sports facility to run a small camp. Advertise in the local paper, social media and talk to as many local schools as you can. Charge the kids $30-$40 for a 2-3 hour camp or host a weekend camp for $25 per day. Several of our players in the past have raised thousands of dollars by doing camps throughout the winter. Kids will jump at the opportunity to work with college athletes. You can also ask local businesses to sponsor a tournament and provide T-shirts for your own personal camps.

On-line Options:

  • Many players have had success raising 50-100% of their cost with online options such as Rally Me and GoFundMe.  Please check with your compliance to make sure any options you use will be legal for eligibility reasons.

Other options athletes have used in the past:

  • Concerts – Have a local band sponsor you by playing at a party that you charge admission for. All proceeds go to you.
  • Bake Sale – A player in the past had several families in her church bake pies and then they auctioned them off at church.
  • Poker Tournament – check your state for gaming rules on money tournaments.
  • Golf tournament – Talk to a local golf club about running a tournament for you. Local sports stores sometimes donate gift cards or apparel for prizes. Charge $100 per person. Generally your profit will be 60%. Maximum for a golf tournament is 144 people (8 persons per hole). Possibility of raising over $8000.
  • 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament – Put together a tournament using your school’s gym as the facility.
  • Spaghetti Dinner/Pancake Breakfast – Check with a local restaurant or school cafeteria to see if they will sponsor a dinner for you.
  • Auction/Raffle – Have local business donate gifts that you can sell at an auction.

Friends and Family

Friends and Family are always welcome to join our tours. The inclusions for friends and family members would be the same with exception of the uniforms and playing time of course. They will be on the bus and included in all the activities and meals the athletes are receiving. We can provide a first class tour with the group and you won’t have to worry about where to stay, how to get around or the best places to see. We will have a complete tour set up for you with a full time guide to help you get around. You’ll also have the flexibility to do your own thing if that’s what you prefer.

Keep in mind that our tours are catered to the athletes and we will schedule everything around the games and tournaments as needed. We encourage the support and will do our best to make it an exciting trip for everyone involved.

Frequently Asked Questions

How did I get selected?

We take great pride in selecting top quality athletes. Our goal is to field a competitive team for each tour or tournament we attend. You were selected based on your stats from a previous season, a coach’s recommendation or your performance at a showcase event. AIST does not mass mail invitations just to fill positions.

Is this spam?

AIST has been traveling the world with select players from across the country to compete in a variety of sports for 20 years! Read about experiences from coaches, players, and family members on our testimony page: www.aist.us/testimony

How many players are selected?

We keep the roster sizes smaller to maximize playing time for each athlete. Each athlete will have the opportunity to showcase their talents throughout the tour. On tours where we only have exhibition games, all players will have an equal amount of playing time. If we are playing in a tournament, there may be circumstances where the best athletes play in order for us to win a championship, but everyone will have the opportunity to earn those positions.

What other costs should I be aware of?

We do our best make sure everyone knows what they will spend on tour. Our Complete packages are all inclusive with the exception of the following – Ground only will not include any airfare:

Connecting Airfare – If you require a flight to get to our gateway city for departure (typically New York area)

Airline Fuel Surcharges – This fee is imposed by the airlines if fuel prices are higher at the time of ticketing 2-3 months prior to departure (it can be anywhere from $0 – $200 depending on the airline and fuel prices)

Additional Sightseeing – There may be some entrance fees to additional sightseeing options not included on your itinerary

Tip Money and Additional Spending Money – It’s important to bring tip money for our bus drivers and tour guides, about $20-30 in total for an 11 day tour. We recommend bringing an additional $35-$45 per day to cover additional expenses on most tours

Personal Travel Insurance – We recommend purchasing travel insurance as it is not included in the tour. Contact Angela Hecht at 631.752.8024 or ahecht@responseco.com. AIST does not sell personal travel insurance.

Can my friends or family travel with me?

YES!

Friends and Family are always welcome to join our select team tours. The inclusions for friends and family members are the same with exception of the uniforms and playing time of course. You’ll have the option of rooming with the athlete you are traveling with or private accommodations for yourself (additional fees for private accommodations).

Will this help me with a college scholarship?

No, we do not help athletes get college or pro scholarships. However, this is an experience of a lifetime to travel the world that has many benefits for you. Our program is designed to give athletes the opportunity to improve as a player and as a person. Here are few reasons to travel with AIST select teams:

  • Cultural Experience of a Lifetime
  • Personal Growth
  • Educational sightseeing excursions and experiences
  • Emersion into an unfamiliar atmosphere
  • Develop new techniques and opportunities to improve your skills
  • A better understanding of the world around you
  • Meeting new friends, teammates and opponents from around the world
  • For High School Athletes – a chance to gain experience playing with like talent as preparation for the college level
  • For College Athletes – a chance to gain exposure for opportunities to play professionally abroad – AIST does not guarantee and pro contracts or opportunities by traveling with us
