Renae Hartl joins the AIST Italy 2025 Select Team as Head Coach, bringing decades of experience and leadership both on and off the field. Currently in her 10th year as Director of Athletics at Luther College and her 24th season as the head softball coach, Hartl has led the Luther softball program with remarkable success and dedication. Her experience extends internationally, having coached on two previous AIST tours, where she has guided herLuther College team in international play and fostered a love of the game across borders.
At Luther College, Hartl oversees 19 varsity sports programs, manages a staff of over 40, and supports nearly 500 student-athletes. As the NCAA Division III athletics administrator, she ensures compliance with federal, state, and NCAA policies and provides strategic leadership for the college’s athletics program. Hartl is responsible for hiring staff, fiscal management, strategic planning, and facilities operations, contributing to a well-rounded and forward-thinking department. She has also served in roles as Associate Athletics Director, Senior Women’s Administrator, NCAA Compliance Director, Title IX Coordinator, and adviser to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Norse ESPY Awards, championing athlete development, equity, and recognition.
A 1999 graduate of Wartburg College, Hartl earned her M.S. from Minnesota State University, Mankato, in 2002. Her extensive career, strong leadership, and passion for international competition make her an ideal head coach for the AIST Italy 2025 Select Team, where she is excited to share her expertise and inspire athletes on an unforgettable tour through Italy.
